La Comisión para la Conservación de los Recursos Vivos Marinos Antárticos (CCRVMA) fue establecida mediante una convención internacional en 1982 con el objetivo de conservar la fauna y flora marina antártica y en respuesta al creciente interés en la explotación comercial de los recursos derivados del kril antártico, que es un componente clave del ecosistema antártico, y al historial de sobreexplotación de varios otros recursos marinos del océano Austral.

The Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) was established by international convention in 1982 with the objective of conserving Antarctic marine life. This was in response to increasing commercial interest in Antarctic krill resources, a keystone component of the Antarctic ecosystem and a history of over-exploitation of several other marine resources in the Southern Ocean.
