Illustrated guide of Decapoda for Atlantic sector of Antarctic and surrounding waters

Description / Abstract:

This book is the first ever published identification guide for Decapoda in the south-western Atlantic region. It contains a short description of the external structure of Decapoda and original illustrations, a taxonomical summary of the order, original text legends, and comparative images for visual identification of different species. Using these images, even a layperson can easily identify the various species.

The book contains 14 original colour plates showing Decapoda. Nine of these were made using living material and accurately reflect the color of live animals. The other five were made using material obtained from the collections of the Falkland/Malvinas Islands Fisheries Department and give a complete representation of the appearance of these animals.

The book can be used as a field guide for scientific observers on fishing vessels, by experts on Antarctic and sub-Antarctic fauna, and by anyone interested in Decapod crustaceans.
