2020
Madison Hughes Gwladys Cannesson

I am from France and currently doing a Master in Translation Studies at Monash University in Melbourne. I was given the chance to do a two-week internship at the CCAMLR Secretariat. It is a great opportunity to see how a translation department works in an international organisation and the different types of documents that go through the hands of the translators. I am hoping to learn more about the day-to-day tasks of an in-house translator as well as the role of CCAMLR and the protection of the Antarctic ecosystem since it is a field that is completely unknown to me. Working alongside experienced translators as well as dealing with different subject matters will surely allow me to be more versatile as a translator.

Larysa Howden

I am originally from Ukraine, but my native language is Russian. I currently live in Sydney, and am studying for a Master’s Degree in Translation and Interpreting at the University of New South Wales. I am excited by the opportunity to do a two-week internship at the CCALMR Secretariat in Hobart, Tasmania. I’m keen to meet new people and to see, learn about and experience the whole process of translating international documents for such a well-known organisation as the Commission for the of Antarctic Marine Living Resources. I’m looking forward to seeing the variety of documents CCAMLR produces and translates, and to learning any skills the experienced translators may wish to share. I’m very supportive of the organisation and its policies regarding the conservation and protection of the Antarctic. I’m sure working as an intern at CCALMR will be beneficial for me in my future work.
